LINCOLN, NE — Today, Protect Our Rights, now Initiative 439, released its first television ad. The ad, titled TWO VOTES, explains that Nebraskans can end the current abortion ban and restore control to families to make their own healthcare decisions with two votes— one vote against 434 and one vote for 439. The :30-second ad will run across the state on broadcast and cable.
TWO VOTES highlights the devastating truth the government abortion ban has on patients and doctors alike. Under the current law, women who have complications that put their lives at risk or have pregnancies that will not survive are left with few options other than to have stillbirths, flee the state, or wait for life-threatening conditions like sepsis, organ failure, or bleeding out before doctors can intervene.
Politicians and activists have promised a total abortion ban in Nebraska. Initiative 434 will make the current ban permanent and leave the door open for further restrictions, even with fatal fetal anomalies. However, a vote for Initiative 439 will end the current ban, stop political interference, and restore decision-making power to patients and their trusted medical professionals throughout pregnancy.
“The negative impact the abortion ban has had on women and families is far worse than Nebraskans realize,” said Allie Berry, Campaign Manager for Protect Our Rights. “The opposition has flooded communities with misinformation, but every day, I meet people who say they are terrified of a permanent ban because they, or someone they know, has had to make the painful choice to have an abortion to protect their health. These deeply personal decisions belong to patients and doctors, never the government. This November, Nebraskans can end the government abortion ban and protect their rights, but it will take two votes– one vote against Initiative 434 and one vote for Initiative 439.”
Media are invited to RSVP for NE for 439, a virtual press briefing series, beginning Tuesday, October 8. RSVP to media@protectourrights.com.
